Overview

The Categories section helps you organize your events into meaningful groups, making it easier for visitors to browse and discover events based on their interests.

Categories provide a hierarchical structure, allowing you to create parent and child categories for better organization. They are also used by archive pages, Elementor widgets, filters, search, and shortcodes.

Examples of event categories include:

  • Conferences
  • Workshops
  • Webinars
  • Concerts
  • Festivals
  • Business Events
  • Sports
  • Exhibitions
  • Meetups

Accessing Categories

Navigate to:

WordPress Dashboard → Zozo Events → Categories

From this screen you can:

  • Add new categories
  • Edit existing categories
  • Delete categories
  • Search categories
  • View event counts
  • Copy category shortcode
  • Organize parent and child categories

Add New Category

The left panel allows you to create a new event category.

Complete the required information and click Add Category.


Category Name

Enter the category name.

Examples:

  • Conference
  • Webinar
  • Workshop
  • Music Festival
  • Business Summit
  • Technology

The category name is displayed throughout the website wherever event categories are shown.


Slug

The slug is the SEO-friendly version of the category name.

It is automatically generated but can be customized manually.

Example:

technology-events

Parent Category

Choose a parent category to create hierarchical event groups.

Example:

Events
   ├── Conferences
   ├── Workshops
   ├── Webinars

Leave this option as None if the category is a top-level category.


Description

Provide a short description of the category.

This description may appear on category archive pages and Elementor taxonomy widgets.

Example:

Browse upcoming technology conferences, software workshops, AI events, and developer meetups.


Category Image

Upload an image representing the category.

Recommended images include:

  • Icons
  • Event-related graphics
  • Banner images
  • Industry illustrations

Category images can be displayed in taxonomy widgets and archive layouts.


Category List

The Categories page displays all created categories.

Each category includes:

  • Category Name
  • Description
  • Slug
  • Parent Category
  • Number of Events
  • Shortcode
  • Edit
  • Quick Edit
  • Delete
  • View

This allows administrators to manage event categories efficiently.


Assigning Categories

Categories can be assigned while creating or editing an event.

An event may belong to one or multiple categories, allowing it to appear in multiple archive pages and filtered searches.


Category Shortcode

Each category automatically generates a unique shortcode.

You can copy the shortcode and insert it into:

  • Pages
  • Posts
  • Elementor Shortcode Widget
  • Custom Templates

This makes it easy to display category-specific content anywhere on your website.
